The end
Sunday 31st May This one is for you, kind anon. sponsor, shd you be reading. Later today on insta I will be declaring this campaign a bust. Have battled chest, ear and sinus infection for 3/4 weeks and along w work and family commitments and rain couldn’t deliver the k’s. I do apologise. Especially if you are one of my Parkinson’s families. Every year I find I know of someone new with it. The good news is it forced me to get my running mojo back and we raised almost$200 which is something. I may try again next year or wait until family life slows down a little and I can be sure I can honour the commitment.
11/5 - 30km
Monday 11th May Wonderful anonymous donation overnight has buoyed me after a week of chest infection made me think I should quit.Sitting here crunching the maths 🤣 (here begins the mental degeneration and exposure as a maths incompetent).
I have done 30k in 11 days; 20days left to make 155k. I get 6.25/day. Not so bad but … not easy either bcs I can’t run every day let alone a 6. BUT. We shall see …
4/5 - More drama
Monday 4th May Murray shared his Indo cold. Cranky unplanned bed rest and hawked up phlegm; soft mist of asthma aerosols. My bivouac encircled by mountainous tissues. I can’t even think what this means. I will deal when I have to - probably in Week 4. Share
3/5 - Enforced rest day
Monday 4th May Judging by my performance at last night’s dinner (tanty over rusty can opener) I am not fit enough for 10k in 2 days. I took an early rest day knowing it will spawn 2 unwelcome 7.5ks down the track. Future Me says ‘Yay! [not]’. Share
2/5 - Want my bed
Saturday 2nd May I worry I won’t complete this. Day 2, already knackered. My Garmin is shot full of offensive, negativity. ‘Training capacity - 0’; ‘Your nap was too long’. Die you bastard. In other news, I again forgot a long-suffering bestie’s birthday, resulting in an apology-laden convo while running UPHILL in last kilometer.
1/5 - First 5km
Friday 1st May 150k to go. Left achilles still not good. If it settles I shd make it. Share
28/4 - She’s back
Tuesday 28th Apr Lungs and heart rate back. Managed first 7km in more than a year, better than recent 5kms. I know I can do this again now. Slow and body not crash hot. Something going on in left hip and left achilles - tight and sore - so will have to be careful and use the dreaded roller. Share
19/4 - Disaster
Sunday 19th Apr Improved 5k time like a labouring camel. Then dropped box of Up and Gos point down on foot. Dented but unbroken.Don’t remember always wanting to quit at 25m. Nor breaking down mileage into sets of hated primary school athletics carnival 800m: ‘Only 4 more 800s to go’. Hello new norm.
16/4 - Better 5km
Saturday 18th Apr Back to old stamping ground. Forgot halfway point includes FULL hill to rest bench. Mood killler. Ugly shambling zombie sprint in last 500m trying to best clock and save pride. Share
11/4 Worse than anticipated
Saturday 18th Apr 5km used to be easy. Tried a Park Run route. Alarmingly slow, even after adrenaline surge from huge snake. Had to break it in 2. Left hip and feet sore. Proposed mileage in doubt. Share
24/3 - Horrendous
Tuesday 24th Mar Faster on flat but can’t sustain it. Fartleks until quads tired. In a moment of exhausted clarity, understood Beach Boys were singing ‘Huarache sandals too’.
Readying
Monday 16th MarWeak 5km in sandhills with many stops to get heart rate down. Have lost form. Need to be fit enough to manage 2 x7.5k and a 10 early on to earn days off.
