I am Stepping up for Parkinson's this May.

This May, I’m stepping up for Parkinson’s—because it’s not just a cause to me, it’s my everyday life. My husband Troy and my dad Keith are both living with Parkinson’s, each facing their own quiet battles, and my grandad faced it before them.

I’ve seen how much more Parkinson’s is than tremors. It slowly takes pieces of the people you love—their ease, their independence, their energy—while you stand beside them wishing you could take it away. Being a carer, a partner, a daughter… it can feel helpless and heartbreaking in ways that are hard to put into words.

So I’m stepping up—for them, for the moments we’ve lost, and for hope that one day no family has to watch the people they love go through this.

Step up for Parkinson’s- the journey so far

Sunday 24th May

There’s something powerful about putting one foot in front of the other.

What started as an idea to raise awareness for Parkinson’s has become something much bigger — a movement of support, connection, community and love.

On Friday 30 May, I’ll be walking for 12 hours straight from 6am to 6pm at Sandy Point Community Hall, raising funds and awareness for Parkinson’s disease. Every step is for my husband Troy, and for every family navigating the reality of this condition.

Parkinson’s changes so much more than movement.

It changes routines, spontaneity, sleep, eating, socialising, work, confidence and independence. Troy takes medication every 1.5 hours from the moment he wakes up until bedtime. Our days revolve around alarms, timing meals around medication, managing symptoms, appointments and constantly adapting to what each day brings.

And yet somehow, through all of it, Troy continues to show incredible courage and grace.

This walk isn’t just about fundraising. It’s about helping people understand what living with Parkinson’s really looks like behind closed doors.

It’s also about carers.

So many carers quietly carry enormous emotional, mental and physical loads while trying to hold families together. In many ways, you lose parts of yourself while caring for someone you love. I know so many people walking this journey will understand exactly what I mean.

The support we’ve received already has honestly blown us away.

We’ve now raised over $2,000, and every donation, message, share and conversation means more than people probably realise. Friends, neighbours, local businesses, family, our medical team and complete strangers have rallied around us with kindness and encouragement.

Even while recently in Bali for a few days, I kept walking — averaging over 21,000 steps a day — because this cause never leaves my mind. Time away reminded me how much I love Troy, how much Parkinson’s affects every part of life, but also how strong love can be in the middle of hard things.

One thing this experience has shown me is that people genuinely want to help — they just need an opportunity to connect.

So this is your invitation.

You do not need to walk for 12 hours.
You do not need to donate huge amounts.
You do not need to know someone with Parkinson’s.

Just come.

Come for five minutes or five hours.
Walk a lap.
Have a conversation.
Bring the kids.
Cheer people on.
Help us create awareness and community around a disease that impacts so many families.

Because every step matters.

Thank you for following this journey and supporting us along the way. We truly couldn’t do this without you.
